Bartleby’s is an independent online stationers and publishing house based in Edinburgh, Scotland. They describe themselves as an analogue business for a decidedly digital crowd. The retail boutique features traditionally made stationery, with a particular focus on pencils and paper goods. While the independent press intends to publish prints and books of social, political, and historical significance.
Initially I created a brand identity for use on their Etsy store and in their stationery and packaging. The brand features a modern geometric crest incorporating visual icons of what Bartleby’s offers. I then designed a bespoke website to tie the two elements of the business together.
For the publication of their first book – a limited run of ‘The Blazing World’, I designed graphics for a Kickstarter campaign, which subsequently went on to generate 2000% of the target. As ‘The Blazing World’ is the first in a series of ‘Bartleby’s Editions’, I was asked to create a jacket template that would work across multiple genres and have a consistent and clean look. Hand-drawn illustrations were commissioned for the cover and internal section pages from Vytautas Bikauskas (www.vytautasbikauskas.com)
